Joe Alwyn says he’s ‘happy in a monogamous relationship’ with Taylor Swift in response to question about open relationships in ‘Conversations with Friends’
Joe Alwyn was promoting Hulu’s “Conversations with Friends,” which premieres in May.
Based on the Sally Rooney novel, it focuses on a college student having an affair with a married actor.

Joe Alwyn has said he is “happy in a monogamous relationship” with Taylor Swift while promoting Hulu’s “Conversations with Friends.”
The Hulu series, based on the Sally Rooney novel, follows college student Frances (played by Alison Oliver) as she embarks on an affair with an actor in a relationship (played by Alwyn).
During a media presentation at CTAM (Cable and Television Association for Marketing) for “Conversations with Friends,” Alwyn discussed the possibility of being in an open relationship.
“I think people can do what they want and makes them happy. I’m obviously happy in a monogamous relationship,” Alwyn said, adding that an open relationship “seems exhausting.”
“But I think one of the interesting things about Sally’s writings and what she explores is happiness, love, desire, and intimacy outside of those constructs that we create for ourselves, whether that’s friendships or families or relationships.”
“So I think as a conversation it’s endlessly fascinating, and one of the reasons why people love her books, and our refusal to — without giving things away — tie things up at the end of her stories in a neat bow. It’s just constantly thought-provoking.”
Alwyn stars alongside Jemima Kirke who said: “Because of the nature of an open relationship, it’s just a lot of talking. You have to do so much talking with your spouse or whatever, maybe on a weekly basis about what’s OK and what’s not OK, then reestablishing grey areas. It’s just exhausting, at least for me it would be.”
Alwyn has been in a relationship with Taylor Swift for five years and won a Grammy Award last year when he collaborated with Swift on her album “Folklore.”
Under the pseudonym William Bowery, Alwyn cowrote “Exile” and “Betty.” He was later added as a coproducer on six tracks: “Exile,” “My Tears Ricochet,” “August,” “This Is Me Trying,” “Illicit Affairs,” and “Betty.”
“There’s been a lot of discussion about William Bowery and his identity ’cause it’s not a real person,” Swift revealed during the “Folklore: The Long Pond Studio Sessions” documentary. “William Bowery is Joe.”

Some people can be quite crafty.
You’re not obligated to swap your pre-booked plane seat with someone who requests it, but often we might do it out of kindness. However, one man stood his ground and refused to give up his chosen seat on a recent flight – and when he discovered the real reason behind the request, he was relieved he did.
Mark Roberts took to TikTok recently to share a word of caution after a woman asked him to switch seats with her, claiming she wanted to sit closer to her daughter – but he suspects there was an ulterior motive. “If someone asks you to switch seats with them on a commercial flight be cautious, because they don’t always have the best intentions,” warned the TikTok star.
After declining to switch seats, Mark is now “so glad” he declined. Detailing the situation, Mark revealed he was one of the first to board the flight and the “only one” in his row.
He added: “As soon as I sit down this random lady taps me on the shoulder and she’s just like ‘my seat is right here’, pointing to the seat next to me, ‘but my daughter is a couple of aisles up, would you mind switching with her so we can sit next to each other? ‘.”
Mark shared that ‘red flags’ started popping up in his mind, as he was seated in Premium Economy, and the only passengers ahead of him were in First Class – implying that’s where the daughter was seated. The TikTok star found it odd that the woman didn’t disclose this information upfront, for instance by asking: “Do you want my First Class seat? “.
He asked to see the ticket, but the woman said her daughter had it, who she also went on to describe as eight years old with “brown hair and pig tails”. Mark replied to the woman, saying: “I’d be more than happy to switch with you if you just show me that ticket.”
Then, all of a sudden, Mark explained the woman got “super lethargic” and “plops her bag into the overhead bin” and “falls” into the seat next to him and says: “Being a mother is so hard, I’ve been walking around all day, I’m sorry, I’m just so tired.”
Eventually she said her daughter was sitting in seat 7A if he wanted to switch with her, but Mark felt like she had “pulled the number of of thin air,” so he politely refused, saying he would rather stay in his seat. “After I said that she became visibly upset and was like, ‘you wouldn’t understand what it takes to be a mother’.”
However, soon a “random dude” came down the aisle and tapped the woman on the shoulder, and told her she was sitting in his seat – and showed his ticket as proof.
Mark then realised the woman’s actual seat was far down the back end of the plane. He was left wondering if he left, would she have just ‘taken it’ and refused to give it back?
In the comment section, people explained what they assumed would have happened. One person said: “She refuses to give the seat back ‘because you gave it to her’ and then you get sat in the back of the plane so they stay on schedule.”
Another person chimed in: “I assume she would’ve just taken it and refused to give it back.”
However, Mark also pointed out that not every request to move should be viewed with suspicion, saying “because I feel there are genuine families that just want to sit together”.
