Travis Kelce and Brother Jason Talk Father’s Day and One Reason They Might Not Get to Celebrate ‘Uncle’s Day’
The brothers discussed some favorite Father’s Day traditions on Wednesday’s episode of their ‘New Heights’ podcast
Travis and Jason Kelce are interested in all the ways one can celebrate Father’s Day — and they’re looking to spotlight uncles this summer too.
The siblings recorded Wednesday’s episode of their New Heights podcast on Sunday, June 16, with Jason, 36, kicking off the podcast by comparing classic American Father’s Day ongoings with differing traditions from various cultures.
“I feel like Father’s Day in the U.S., everybody’s like, barbecue, hang out with your family, Dad gets to, like, not be Dad. But you’re kind of still dad,” the retired NFL player — who is dad to daughters Bennett, 15 months, Elliotte, 3, and Wyatt, 4 — told his brother and co-host Travis, 34.
“I was looking at some of these other countries and maybe what they do … turns out pretty much everybody just does what the U.S. does,” Jason continued. “Everybody [is] kinda just like, ‘Hey, Dad. We’re just gonna give you a bunch of meats that you like to eat and some cool foods and tell you we love you.'”
The former Eagles star noted that his favorite international Father’s Day custom comes from Germany. Per Jason’s description, German men traditionally spend the holiday hiking in groups, “often pulling wagons filled with beer, wine and food,” he explained.
“While it’s a day for men to enjoy camaraderie and the outdoors, it is also a family day for those who prefer to celebrate with their children and loved ones,” Jason said, adding, “I think that’s a badass way to celebrate Father’s Day. You just load up a wagon with f—ing meats and beer and ‘See you guys later!’ Just wander into the woods.”
