The Munich leg was among the biggest highlights of Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour. An unprecedented 120,000 ‘attended’ her concert on each night.
The hills were alive with the sound of music on both days of the Munich leg of Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour. The singer, who is currently touring Europe, shared what is likely the defining picture of her billion dollar Eras Tour, on Wednesday.
While the stadium that she performed at housed around 74000 people, another 50,000 gathered on a nearby hill to listen to her for free. Men and women took over a beautiful hill by a lake, almost completely covering it. The stunning image was clearly the highlight of this leg of the tour.
Taylor wrote in her photo dump from Munich, “What a magical experience it was playing in Munich… The crowds of 74,000 people a night in the stadium were so passionate, and so generous to us. And I had no idea before I got to Munich that there’s a huge park behind the stadium, but around 50,000 people came out and listened to the show from the hillside both nights. I’ve been watching so many videos of the crowds out there fully participating in the show from afar, all that joy… I’m feeling really grateful for the unexpected memories this tour has created.”
The Swifties packed the Olympic Hill, or Olympiaberg, one of the highest elevations in the southern German city, for the second straight day Sunday. That gave them a high perch for watching the singer’s sold-out concert in the nearby Olympic Stadium.
On Saturday, they braved the heat, which reached 31 Celsius (88 Fahrenheit) and claimed their spots hours before the concert began.
Rather than discourage the free viewings, the concert organiser handed out water and emergency blankets to those waiting to protect themselves from the sun.
Sunday’s concert was Swift’s last in Germany as part of her Eras tour. She heads next to the Polish capital, Warsaw, for three concerts this coming week, from Thursday through Saturday.
