Layered decorative pillows, throw blankets, and plants make her space a cozy oasis – it’s the model for how to use soft furnishings effectively

Paint, furniture, and upholstery are not the only things that matter regarding interior design; accessories are equally important. No matter the design scheme, a carefully placed throw pillow, a casually strewn blanket, or a styled lamp, can majorly upgrade the space. The perfect example can be found in Sofía Vergara’s home.

The actress’s living room begins with a warm neutral color scheme. Vergara’s designer has layered a beige rug with a natural wood coffee table. This base perfectly complements an antique-style dark wood sofa. A large open door behind the sofa fills the room with light for a stunning, bright atmosphere. On its own the room would be impressive, but the accessories take it to next level. Vergara’s designer has added coffee table books, a bowl of oranges, decorative pillows, and patterned white lamps, completely elevating the room.

Embodied within these accessories are lessons in creating a cozy living room. Jennifer Ebert, digital editor at Homes & Gardens states: ‘Vergara’s gray throw pillows and quilted blanket are the perfect way to bring texture into her space. Adding fabrics through a carpet, blankets, and pillows is the way to make a space feel warmer and more inviting with very little effort. They can be easily swapped out if the color scheme changes.’

The plants in the back of Vergara’s neutral living room further liven her space. Ebert states, ‘Plants are a great way to bring brightness and energy into your home. Not only do they add texture, but the fact that plants are living and breathing makes them feel much more dynamic than other accessories. Furthermore, plants are a good way to add texture and interest to a room without bringing in new colors.’
