Royal news – live: Prince Harry ‘rejected King’s invitation’ to stay in UK as Kate Middleton issues update
Prince Harry did not want to risk staying at a ‘visible location’
Prince Harry turned down a meeting with King Charles on his recent trip to the UK because of security concerns, according to reports.
Despite suggestions that the pair, who have not seen each other since February, did not meet because of the King’s busy schedule, it has now been claimed that it was a result of Harry’s particular security requests.
According to The Telegraph, Harry was offered the chance to stay at a royal residence on his brief visit but turned it down because it had no tax-payer funded security provision.
He therefore opted to stay in a hotel where he “could come and go unseen” instead of staying at a “visible location” where he could have reunited with his cancer-stricken father.
The subject remains a bone of contention for the duke who railed against losing his publicly-funded security protection after choosing to step back from his royal duties and move to California with Meghan Markle in 2020.
Representatives for the Duke of Sussex have been contacted by The Independnent for comment.
The fresh claims come after an “excited” Princess of Wales gave her first major project update since beginning her cancer treatment.
Her Royal Foundation Business Taskforce for Early Childhood released a new report yesterday (21 May) that suggests £45.5 billion could be added to the economy a year if businesses introduce more family-friendly working practices.
Palace sources confirmed that the report has been viewed in full by Kate from home.
