Reason Taylor Swift and Joe Alwyn’s ‘secret engagement as wedding bells ended romance’

Taylor Swift and ex-boyfriend Joe Alwyn showed all the signs of being headed for the altar during their six-year romance but their ‘secret engagement’ sadly signalled the end of the couple

When Taylor Swift reportedly got engaged to Joe Alwyn back in 2022 the singer didn’t realise at the time that the fate of her romance was already sealed.

Rumours of pending nuptials had been rife for months for the couple when it was reported in June 2022 that they had started planning their wedding after a 4000-mile journey from Nashville to St Ives for a romantic break had resulted in a proposal a few months earlier.

They continued to The Sun at the time: “Everyone has been sworn to secrecy, too. Taylor has a beautiful ring but she only wears it when she’s at home – i.e behind closed doors. Again, only a handful of people know details about the wedding and Taylor hasn’t even told some of her team about the engagement.”

However, fast forward to early 2023 and it appeared that things had gone terribly wrong for the once loved-up couple after six years together it was announced they had gone their separate ways. While speculation was rife over what had caused the breakdown of their romance one theory kept coming up – their conflicting ideas on a potential wedding had ended the relationship.

Then in April of this year as Taylor released her latest studio album The Tortured Poets Department she appeared to provide plenty of fuel for the fire of the fact that she had been engaged to Joe and that their wedding plans – or lack of – had caused chaos between them. Firstly, Taylor released the music video for the lead single – Fortnight, which features Post Malone.

In the opening scene of the black and white music video, which was set in a very clinical location of an asylum, Taylor can seen handcuffed to a bed while wearing a white wedding dress complete with a garter. While handcuffed to the bed, which was at an angle in an upside-down room, Taylor can be seen getting administered a “forget him” pill.
