Prince William praises homelessness effort

Published

Prince William has visited Aberdeen to thank the city’s homelessness organisations for their work supporting rough sleepers.

The Prince of Wales – who is known as the Duke of Rothesay in Scotland – launched his Homewards project last year.

It is a five-year campaign aimed at ending homelessness in the UK.

At a thank-you reception for Aberdeen’s homeless sector, he met guests including broadcaster Gail Porter, a Homewards supporter.

Homewards launched in six UK locations – Aberdeen, Newport, Lambeth, Belfast, Sheffield and three neighbouring Dorset towns of Poole, Bournemouth and Christchurch.

Prince William’s visit included the offices of housing and homelessness charity Shelter Scotland, to meet staff and some of those being helped.

The charity is a member of the Aberdeen coalition of his Homewards project.

The prince has previously said homelessness should not exist in a “modern and progressive society”.
