Prince Harry is looking for a house in the UK: Has he had enough of his life in the United States?
The Duke of Sussex has not had a permanent home in his homeland since he had to return Frogmore Cottage.
Prince Harry misses home. After four years residing in the United States, following his renunciation of royal status, the youngest son of King Charles III is reportedly looking to buy a permanent residence in the United Kingdom, replacing Frogmore Cottage, his old home.
Author and royal affairs expert Tom Quinn said, “As time goes by, Harry misses some aspects of his old life in the UK. Inevitably, the honeymoon period where everything in the States is new and exciting is coming to an end, and Harry is looking back at the past through rose-tinted spectacles.”
Speaking to The Mirror, Quinn speculated that Harry misses his army and Old Etonian friends, whom he has virtually not seen since he moved to the United States and because they do not get along with his wife, Meghan Markle.
Despite this, according to Quinn, “Harry is determined to find his own permanent home in the UK, which is partly why he’s continuing his legal action to get the British taxpayer to pay for his security.”
Frogmore Cottage
The 5,089 sq ft, five-bedroom residence located in Home Park in Windsor, England, was a gift from Queen Elizabeth II to Harry and Meghan after their marriage. However, when the Duke and Duchess of Sussex renounced their royal status and the Royal Family, they had to return the house.
Harry wrote about it in his autobiography, “Spare,” saying that “Once upon a time, this was going to be my forever home. Instead, it had proven to be just another brief stop.”
Harry’s feelings about Frogmore Cottage go beyond nostalgia. The prince and Meghan paid a hefty sum for an extensive renovation in 2019. Although the work was initially paid for by taxpayers’ money, the couple later repaid the expenses with their own income.
