“People think I’m coming back” – Serena Williams answers once and for all whether she would make a comeback to tennis after retiring
Serena Williams recently pushed back against talks of her coming back to tennis. The American legend retired from the sport at the age of 40 in September 2022.
Williams is among the greatest players to have lifted a tennis racket. Her remarkable journey coincided with the rise of women’s tennis, as her name became synonymous with the sport. The American turned pro in 1995.
Serena, alongside her older sister Venus, dominated women’s tennis for more than two decades. In her career, Serena won an incredible 23 Grand Slam titles, the most of any female player in the Open Era. The former World No. 1 drew curtains on her trailblazing career in 2022.
Serena Williams decided the US Open as the venue for her swansong, and it was a fairytale campaign for the American as she reached the third round. Since then, she has focused on other aspects of her life like raising a family and dedicating attention to her business ventures.
The post went viral on social media, with many tennis fanatics seeing it as Williams’ way of telling the world about her return to the sport. Williams rubbished the claims during her interview, saying she was not hinting at anything. She was just eager to hit some balls after a long time.
“It wasn’t cryptic. I literally am ready to hit balls. I haven’t hit in a long time. It’s my life, and I love it and I miss it so much. I did learn I shouldn’t post it on Twitter, because people think I’m coming back, and I’m like, ‘No,’ Williams said.
