Lil Nas X lauds Beyoncé and Shaboozey’s country music success
Lil Nas X wishes Beyoncé and Shaboozey’s country music success would have happened for him
Lil Nas X has recently lauded Beyoncé and Shaboozey for their major chart success in country music
In a new interview with the BBC, Nas X revealed he was happy for both of them but felt bad for his debut single to be removed by Billboard.
“I wish this would have happened for me. I wasn’t even able to experience this,” said the 25-year-old.
Nas X’s song Old Town Road was reportedly removed from the Hot Country Songs chart, saying the song “did not embrace enough elements of today’s country music to chart in its current form”.
To note, Beyoncé became the first Black woman to hit No. 1 on the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart with Texas Hold ‘Em, which remained on top of the list for 10 weeks before Shaboozey’s A Bar Song (Tipsy) overtook the position.
Nas X also revealed he tried to stay away from country music after the removal of his single from the Hot Country Songs chart.
The Grammy winner told BBC, “I have been trying out some country [sounds] here and there over the last couple of years, though it hasn’t felt right.”
“I want to feel connected to it and not force it,” he added.
Earlier, Nas X spoke to Time about his song being removed from the Hot Country Songs chart.
“The song is country trap. It’s not one, it’s not the other. It’s both. It should be on both [charts],” he remarked.
Nas X stated, “I believe whenever you’re trying something new, it’s always going to get some kind of bad reception.”
“For example, when rap started, or when rock and roll began. But with country trap, I in no way want to take credit for that,” continued the rapper.
Nas X added, “I believe Young Thug would be one of the biggest pioneers in that.”
