John Lewis ‘elegant’ polka dot dress that looks like Kate Middleton’s Ascot midi

The Princess of Wales wore a polka-dot Alessandra Rich number for Royal Ascot in 2022 – and this John Lewis midi dress will help you get her look for less

John Lewis is selling a polka-dot midi dress that looks similar to a designer piece worn by Kate Middleton in 2022 – and it’s currently on sale. With temperatures set to soar in the UK, fashion fans will surely be delighted at the chance to bag a lookalike of one of Princess Kate’s stunning summer dresses.

Making her debut appearance at the races, Catherine looked effortlessly chic in her white Alessandra Rich number adorned with black polka dots, which she wore with pair of tan court heels by Emmy London, £495, and a matching £395 suede clutch bag from the same brand.

If you loved Kate’s Ascot look and want to replicate it this season, department store John Lewis has the perfect alternative. The Hobbs Lucilla Polka Dot Midi Shirt Dress is strikingly similar to royal’s designer frock, but it’s priced at £129, down from £189 in the sale.

The high-street alternative has a flowing midi-length skirt and a collared neckline. Like Kate’s dress, it features long sleeves and dark spots against a white fabric, perfect for making a statement in style. A self-tie belt at the middle flatters your frame, cinching you in beautifully.

The Hobbs midi is a great choice for dressing up or down during the sunny weather, whether you add a pair of flat sandals or even high heels like Princess Kate. It has an ivory and navy colourway.

On the John Lewis website, the dress has earned an impressive 5/5 score, with one person boasting about how ‘lovely’ it is. The shopper shared in a five-star review: “I love this dress bought for a wedding. It’s elegant, fits beautifully and feels really comfortable.”

The only thing we don’t like is that this fabulous midi doesn’t come in more colourways. You can buy it in both regular and petite versions, in UK sizes from eight to 18, at johnlewis.com. It’s currently down to £129 from £189 – saving shoppers £60.

A similar piece we love is River Island’s White Spot Bow Swing Midi Dress which costs £65. It has a spot print, bow detail and high neck, giving you the royal look at an affordable price.
