Grass Season’s Unsurprising Welcome Leaves Coco Gauff’s Coach Amazed as He Ponders Over Milos Raonic and Qinwen Zheng’s Destructive Feats
Coco Gauff and her team are ready to shine on the grass courts! With Brad Gilbert by her side, WTA’s World No. 2 is getting ready for the green swing. The grass season has started in classic fashion with the Grass Court Championships Berlin with its fast paced environment. And Gilbert was left pondering over Milos Raonic and Zheng Qinwen’s big serving numbers, making new records.
In an exciting three-set encounter, the No. 6 seed defeated wildcard Naomi Osaka to move on to the Ecotrans Ladies Open second round. With this triumph, Zheng has now defeated the former World No. 1 twice this season, having previously prevailed in the Rome fourth round.
Looking into that, Gilbert was left amazed by such numbers and shared his appreciation on Twitter. He wrote, “yesterday Missile Raonic drops @atptour record 47 aces, Zheng just hits 23 aces taking out Double Osaka, that has to be most on @WTA tour this year, wonder 💭 where that total is in top 10 list.”
With her most recent victory, Zheng now leads their head-to-head record by 2-1, showcasing her increasing skill on the court and establishing her status as a strong contender in the competition. On the other hand, Milos Raonic stunned the tennis world on Monday at Queen’s Club, breaking the previous record for most aces in a three-set match when defeating Cameron Norrie in the opening round.
This incredible accomplishment beats the previous record of 45 aces, which was established in Halle in 2015 by Ivo Karlovic versus Tomas Berdych. In 2011, Raonic set a new personal high of 38 aces. However, by the end of the match, the Canadian tennis player opened up about creating such a huge record.
