Beaming King Charles and Queen Camilla arrive at Epsom races in matching rain macs
King Charles and Queen Camilla are at the first day of the Epsom Derby festival where they will watch one of their horses, which was bred by the late Queen, look for victory in the Betfred Oaks race
King Charles and Queen Camilla have made a surprise appearance at Epsom races for a very poignant reason.
The royal couple were seen arriving at the racecourse on the first day of the Epsom Derby festival, also known as Ladies’ Day, where they wore matching rain macs and waved to he crowds before taking their seats in the royal box. The day could be important one for the pair as a horse owned by them and bred by the late Queen is among 12 running in the Betfred Oaks race later. The race was the most successful of the five Classics for Queen Elizabeth II, having owned two winners of the Epsom Downs contest in Carrozza (1957) and Dunfermline (1977).
This year her legacy lives on with the filly Treasure set to line up in the 2024 renewal of the Betfred Oaks in the iconic royal silks. Treasure is a daughter of leading stallion Masterscraftsman and Shimmering Light, who was placed in two races for Queen Elizabeth II in 2017.
