on

Hollywood’s long tradition of having artists from the same family has led fans to wonder if Emily Watson is related to Emma Watson. The recent announcement of Dune: Prophecy has got more people looking into Emily Watson’s background and whether she shares any familial connection to Emma Watson. Here’s everything you need to know about Emily Watson’s family and Emma Watson’s family.

Is Emily Watson related to Emma Watson?
Despite sharing a common surname, Emily Watson and Emma Watson are not related at all.

Though they share British backgrounds and similar names, the two accomplished actresses have had quite different careers. In fact, Emily and Emma have yet to share the big screen together, having never signed on the same project to date.

The only career connection between the two is that both Watsons have worked on separate versions of Little Women. Emily portrayed Marmee March in the 2017 miniseries, while Emma played the role of Meg March in the 2019 film adaptation of Louisa May Alcott’s acclaimed novel.

Emily Watson’s family
Emily Watson was born in London in 1967 to a non-thespian family. Her father, Richard Watson, was an architect by profession, while her mother, Katherine, used to work as an English teacher. The 57-year-old actress also has an older sister named Harriet.

Before debuting in Hollywood, Emily started her acting career in the theatre, undertaking roles in multiple renowned plays. She later moved to work with the Royal Shakespeare Company, where she met her husband, Jack Waters. A fellow actor at the time, Waters now pursues pottery as a profession.

Emma Watson’s family
Similarly to Emily Watson, Emma Watson’s parents also have no distinguished background in showbiz. Born in 1990 in Paris, Emma’s father, Chris Watson, was an English lawyer, just like her mother, Jacqueline Luesby. Having spent five years in France, Watson moved to London following the separation of her parents. She also has a younger brother named Alex.
