Ansel Elgort and Lily James Get Hearts Racing in “Baby Driver” Exclusive Clip
“They call, I go.”
Ansel Elgort is making a career turn – literally.
His new role in the forthcoming film Baby Driver, out June 28, puts him behind the driver’s seat of an infamous getaway car. He plays a character named — you guessed it — “Baby,” and as we can infer from the newest teaser clip, it’s Ansel like you’ve never seen him before.
Baby Driver debuted at SXSW and follows the protagonist on a music-filled journey of helping con-artists flee the scene of the crimes they are committing. In a new Teen Vogue exclusive, we see Baby meeting his love interest Debora (Cinderella’s Lily James) for the first time; she’s a waitress at a diner who makes small talk with the cute guy eating alone. “Are you starting your day, or did you just get off?” Debora begins. “Well, I don’t know that I ever get off. They call, I go,” he responds.
When she finds out he’s a driver, she’s even more intrigued. “Oh, so like a chauffeur?,” she asks innocently. “You drive around important people? Anyone I’d know?” she asks.
“I’d hope not,” he concludes.
In a bit of what is perhaps some foreshadowing, Debora goes onto say that her dream is to “head West on 20, in a car [she] can’t afford, in a plan [she] doesn’t have; just her, her music and the road.” And it seems the dream resonates with Baby, but from what we can tell, the clip depicts the calm before the storm.
