Royal news – live: King and Queen to mark D-Day in France with William in first overseas trip since cancer
The 75-year-old monarch appears in high spirits after throwing himself back into public engagements
The King, Queen and Prince of Wales will mark the 80th anniversary of the D-Day landings in France in what will be the monarch’s first overseas trip since his shock cancer diagnosis announcement.
Buckingham Palace confirmed on Friday that the royals will be attending commemorative events in Normany as well as the UK next month.
It comes as Camilla, 76, issued a playful warning to Charles, 75, after revealing her husband is “getting better”, joking to guests at a royal engagement: “Well, he would be [getting better] if he behaved himself.”
The Queen has been frank in her view that the King should slow down following his cancer diagnosis earlier this year – but Charles has appeared to throw himself back into public life in high spirits following the greenlight by doctors last month.
The King appeared in a buoyant mood on a visit to the Royal Opera House on Thursday night as he made a surprise appearance – which came a week after claims he snubbed Prince Harry twice on his recent visit to the UK.
